Solar, Wind, and Alternative Energy

SolarWelcome to desertrockenergy.com. This site is designed to educate about solar lights, home solar, wind energy and more. The Learning Center is packed with usable information and resources about renewable and sustainable sources of energy.

Solar lights are a gateway to understanding solar energy. From small, outdoor garden lights to giant flood lights, each is constructed with their own solar panel array that collects the rays of the sun and discharges that energy into illumination. This illustration of solar power technology on a small scale helps people realize there are so many other ways they can make solar power work for them.

Solar heating is the next natural step taken by a lot of homeowners – especially solar water heating. Solar water heaters are freestanding solar power systems that do not require investment in a giant comprehensive system. A lot of people have already figured out solar water heaters just make good sense – especially in Israel and European countries.

Home solar panels are a big step to take, even if someone has already invested in a solar water heater or lights. The investment is what’s been cost-prohibitive up until the 21st Century. Currently in the U.S. more and more local and state governments are offering tax rebates and incentives along with the federal government that are beginning to make large home systems more accessible.

A solar battery is a handy device designed to collect the sun’s rays and produce a charge from the energy generated. A good deep-cycle battery that runs on solar is in high demand for military and remote applications for its obvious benefits.

A solar charger and regulator are essential accessories for a solar battery. A charger enables a whole host of small electronics to be charged remotely. A battery can store excess energy for cloudy days or night time. A regulator prevents slow leaks and overcharging.

Wind energy is an ancient source of renewable energy. Modern technology continues to improve the efficiency and capability of this source of energy. The most current innovation is off-shore wind farms. Building turbines in the ocean means the arms can be a lot bigger (trap a lot more air) since the arms don’t have to be transported on narrow or twisted roads.

Clean energy is talked about a lot on this site, for obvious reasons. ‘Green energy’ and ‘alternative energy’ are two other ways we investigate renewable and sustainable sources. The terms are fairly interchangeable, but exact definitions vary.

Energy conservation is the term used to describe one of the ways to think more smartly about energy usage. Conservation begins in the home with simply using less energy and being smarter and more educated about consumption. The Learning Center contains many suggestions and resources about how easy conservation really is once you are in the right frame of mind.
